What are Professional Learning Communities? “A professional learning community is characterized by the collaborative work of educators to continuously seek, share, and act on their learning in order to improve their practice for the purpose of improved student outcomes.” (Terry Astuto, 1993). The ultimate success of academic standards depends on effective educational professionals who can lead their teams to work collaboratively. On many school campuses, collaborative work among faculty in the midst of all the pressure to perform can often be challenging.
